Application of Vick Vapor and essential oils directly on the skin. On all of this treatments if the nail is filed, it will work better. One of the better essential oils for this kind of application is the tea tree oil, commonly found in Australia. There is scientific evidence to this oil’s antifungal action, and penetration. Also, as the solution, this home remedy for nail fungus should be applied daily.

Pure Oregano Essential Oil. Another essential oil that is very popular because of its properties. This oil is antiseptic, anti fungal and analgesic. A powerful combination for a home treatment.

Do not use during pregnancy or on children under 5. Oil of oregano may reduce the absorption of iron, so take the oil at least two hours before or after consuming iron supplements. Do not use near eyes or mucous membranes. This is not the oregano you find in the grocery store. Pure essential oils are not for cooking, and very few can be taken internally. Any oil of oregano which might be safe enough to be taken internally is not pure but will be already diluted in carrier oil.

Nail fungus infections, also referred to as onychomycosis, are extremely common. Approximately 12% of all Americans suffer from nail fungus. Toenail fungus infections are much more common than fingernail fungus, and are more difficult to treat. This is because fungi thrive in dark, warm and moist environments.

If your toenail gets really thick and yellow, it is a form of fungus. Take a nail file and run it over the surface of the toenail. Rub it both horizontally and laterally to make uneven grooves in the top of the nail. Then rub Vick’s Vapor Rub into the top of the toenail. The grooves will help keep the Vick’s on the toenail. Do this for several days/nights in a row as often as you can.

You may get affected by the toenail fungus in damp areas such as public gyms, shower stalls or swimming pools. Toe nail fungus can spread from one toe to another or to other body parts. Athletes and people who give trauma to their toe by wear tight-fitting shoes or tight hosiery are at great risk of toe nail fungus. Other reasons may be abnormal pH level of the skin, not drying off the feet thoroughly after bathing or exercise, and decreased immunity.

Tea tree oil serves as an effective home remedy foe toe nail fungus, as it is a natural antiseptic that helps a great deal in fighting with fungus. Take some undiluted tea tree oil and mix a few drops of olive oil in it. Apply this mixed oil on the affected toenails.

Fill a basin with warm water and vinegar in equal proportion (any vinegar will do, but apple cider vinegar has proven more effective). Soak your toenails in this solution for about 20 minutes. Wipe your toes and toenails thoroughly with a dry towel and then with super absorbent paper. This should be done twice daily till symptoms disappear.

Rubbing alcohol is easily available at any pharmacy. Soak the affected toenail/s in rubbing alcohol for about 20 minutes twice daily (morning and just before going to bed). Dry thoroughly using super absorbent paper towels.

Toenail fungal infection is a common condition in which, the toenail gets infected with micro sized living fungus. Any fungal infection is generally caused by fungi called as ‘dermatophytes’. These fungi live on the dead skin and the hair on the skin. Such infections are also labeled as ringworm but different names are just referred to the parts of the body where those infections attack.

Toenail fungus is tinea corporis and it lives on the skin around and underneath the toenail. Once the fungus gets seated it gradually spread to the surrounding areas like cuticles and then finally nail-bed. It might change the color of the nail and sometimes produce severe pain that a person limps finding difficulty to cope up with the infection troubling the toe. It becomes difficult for a person to wear shoes and to walk comfortably. Many treatments are available to treat such condition in an effective way.

Tea tree oil is a great natural home remedy for curing toenail infection especially the fungal ones. Tea tree oil is derived from the tree called Melaleuca alternifolia that grows abundantly in Australia. The oil was used in Australia since many years but after researches on it, Tea tree oil has now drawn everybody’s attention and has now become one of the most popular essential oils as home remedy or alternative therapy used to treat various health ailments.

The Tea tree oil contains chemicals known as terpenoids that are believed to be having medicinal properties. Another useful ingredient Tea tree oil contains is cineole. Both of these ingredients are active components that posses antifungal and antibacterial properties. Tea tree oil kills the microorganisms that are resistant to some antibiotics and if applied locally, it can be very effective antiseptic and anti-infective for fungal infection. The oil has been widely used to treat condition called as Athlete’s foot, a fungal infection of the toenail.

Tea tree oil is also used to treat insect bites, sunburn and other minor skin problems where there is itching and irritation. Tea tree oil has also been practiced curing to kill bacteria in the mouth before the dental surgery and to lessen the mouth irritation that is caused by dental procedures. In oral candidiasis, Tea tree oil has proven results when used as gargling. Oral candidiasis is nothing but a fungal infection of the mouth and throat and hence, it can also work on toenail fungal infection.

One can use Tea tree oil alone or with some other essential oil as combination. Using Tea tree alone can help healing the newly detected toenail fungal infection. In other words, uncomplicated and toenail infection on the initial stages can effectively be treated with Tea tree oil and when it is more advanced, it can be treated by using Tea tree oil with combination of olive oil or lavender oil or apple cider vinegar. To use these oils, one can take cotton-ball and can dip into oils before applying onto the affected area. If you are using Tea tree oil as single oil, you can use eyedropper to take and put onto the affected area. Once the application is over, do not forget to make the area dry after sometime.

One of the most common infections is nail fungus, bothering numerous people all over the world. This infection is caused by the penetration of microorganisms inside the nails. These microorganisms survive and thrive in warm and humid environments mostly. Nail fungus can cause the nails to get harder and discolored; but is not just annoying or unaesthetic, but it’s also quite painful. Therefore, people try all kinds of different remedies, although the tea tree oil nail fungus remedy seems to be the most popular one.

It is derived from a tree called Melaleuca alternifolia, which is mostly found in Australia. You can find it though in pharmacies and homeopathic product stores in small bottles. It contains several natural chemicals with medicinal properties and abilities, known as terpenoids. It is also rich in cineole that features effective antibacterial and antifungal abilities, therefore can kill fungi that might be resistant to antibiotics or other oral treatments.

Tea tree oil is a natural remedy, both cheap and effective. It is a treatment that can be easily absorbed by the skin and the nail layers to kill the unwanted fungi. It is a very efficient and potent antiseptic and can easily penetrate skin. The only thing you need to do is to apply it undiluted to the affected nails and rub them mildly for a few seconds.

However natural and effective this remedy is, not everyone can use it. Pregnant women or breast feeding mothers are not allowed to use it, as it might cause some skin and stomach irritation. If you try the tea tree oil nail fungus remedy and you notice any allergic reaction, you should stop the treatment as soon as possible. If you don’t have any problem with it, you should get rid of the fungi within a few days. Tea tree oil is used to treat Athlete’s foot as well.

1. Rose

Rose essential oil is helpful for:

1. Depression: Inhale, or use in carrier oil to massage the chest, neck and face.

2. Dehydrated, mature skin: Blend with sweet almond oil and massage the face and neck, or add a few drops to your night cream. Use rosewater as a skin freshener.

3. Insomnia: Put a few drops on your pillow, or dab a little under your nose before retiring.

4. Irregular periods: Mix in carrier oil and massage the abdomen and lower back daily.

2. Sandalwood

4. Stress, tension: Inhale, use in the bath or in a burner. Can aid sleep.

3. Tea tree

The tea tree is native to Australia and the oil is distilled from the leaves. This oil is an excellent antiseptic, 12 to 15 times more potent than carbolic. When applied neat to a cut, its antiseptic potency doubles! Keep this one in your first aid box.

Tea tree essential oil is helpful for:

1. Athlete’s foot: Add six drops to a large bowl of warm water and soak feet for 15 minutes. Repeat daily.

2. Boils, spots: Apply neat to the boil or spot using a cotton bud.

3. Cuts: Bath with neat oil.

4. Sore throat: Dilute five drops in a glass of water and gargle three times a day.

5. Thrush: Add six drops to your bath. Also, blend in carrier oil and massage the abdomen regularly.

We have all heard of the famous British explorer captain Cook. In 1770 captain Cook landed Botany Bay near the site that eventually would become known as Sydney, Australia. During this period of discovery he came across the “Healing ground” area which was named by the aborigines, it was an area filled with trees. Cook observed the aborigines as they applied crushed leaves, gathered from these trees, to open wounds. They also brewed tea from those same leaves which Cook found spicy and refreshing and it was he who gave the Melaleuca Alternifolia tree its common name “The tea tree”.

Captain Cook and his crew would later on take samples of the tea tree back to England for further study but nothing ever became of those studies and as a result the medical properties of the Melaleuca Alternifolia remained undiscovered to those outside of Australia.

Dr Dennis Considen, who was a surgeon recognized the medical properties of the tea tree but due to lack of training and equipment the powerful potential of the oil remained dormant for the next 150 years. In 1923 Dr.A. Penfold, an Australian chemist studied the tea tree oil in depth after distilling it and found that it had significant antiseptic as well as bactericidal properties. He presented his findings in 1925 to the Royal Society of new South Wales and England, you can find the first medical reference to the qualities of tea tree oil in the medical journal of Australia 1930.

When World War 2 broke out the melaleuca oil was an essential part of every Australian first aid kit as they fully recognized the many medical qualities that lie within it.

Later on, in 1960 further studies were conducted in an attempt to rediscover and recertify the effects of the tea tree oil and so it begun, the tea tree and its oil became the hit of the century and as a result the Australian government had to set some standards for development of acceptable quality oil which included a concentration of at least 35% terpinen 4-ol & no more than 10 % cineole.

Eventually the old standards would change slightly to accommodate room for further proliferation and in the current day, melaleuca oil is recognized & sold world wide. It has undergone extensive research and has proven its multiple medical benefits, a good quality oil today would have at least 35% terpinen 4-ol & no more than 10% cineole which is the 1967 standard.

Melaleuca has once more been re-recognized as an extremely effective cure for a variety of medical conditions. Who would have ever thought that a tree would have such a long and complex history?

So, the answer is yes, health, wellness & a tea tree do connect. Infact, they have connected so well that some companies have used melaleuca oil in many of their products to establish a successful health line.

Many have been blessed to learn and gain from the multiple benefits of the tea tree and for me, it was a discovery beyond all medical discoveries.

Good grief!

Surely the note is wrong!

You’re a good parent, what on earth has happened?

The note from the school nurse says that your child has head lice. It sort of makes you want to hide your face with a paper sack. Head lice! Simply disgusting! How on earth can that have happened to your child?

Well, the issue is head lice can happen to anyone.

Head lice have no qualms about invading the head of the most impeccably clean and well to do child.

Yes, you shampoo and comb and brush your child’s hair every single night but really that doesn’t matter at all.

Head lice infestations can happen to the best of us. But you have already made a decision that you are not interested in using pesticides to kill the head lice. That simply sounds too harsh and something you are not comfortable with.

That is okay.

Home remedies for head lice may be something that you are more comfortable with and if that is so be sure to do the research first before you make a final decision on which home remedy to use.

The first home remedy for head lice that you might consider is simply trying to comb them out with a special nit comb or by using a pet style flea brush.

This will be a long and tedious method.

If you are going to use this style of home treatment get ready to be patient.

Wet your child’s hair and use a conditioner or even olive oil, divide the hair into small sections and then begin by combing from the root of the hair out to the end of the strand.

Look at the comb every time it passes through a section of the hair. You might even consider combing your child’s hair over a bowl of water or over a white paper towel so you can see what you are able to comb out of each strand of hair. This method does take a lot of time and a lot of patience from not only you but from your child as well.

If you have made the decision to use an over-the-counter head lice treatment then make sure that you thoroughly read the warning on the boxes label because there are many side effects associated with these treatments.

Side effects include things such as scalp irritation, head rashes and even eczema. There is even a study which seems to link the chemical treatment of children with head lice to a higher incidence of leukemia.

Again, there are no hard core facts but it is certainly something to take into consideration. It is also important to remember if you are pregnant or nursing you must not use over-the-counter chemical head lice treatments.

One successful home remedy for head lice treatment is a combination of tea tree oil, citronella, lavender oil, and neem oil.

Tea tree oil which comes from the Melaleuca plant in Australia has properties which are known to be both anti-septic and anti-fungal. Tea tree oil is used to fight and insect bites, acne, colds, flu, and even mouth infections. Citronella oil comes from a grass and is very well known and widely used to repel both insects, such as mosquitoes, flies, and ticks.

Lavender oil is used to treat insect bites, fungal infections, sunburn, and even anxiety. It is a known relaxant. Neem oil also found in Australia is used as an insect repellent and also has other therapeutic purposes particularly associated with healing skin diseases.

You may be able to find this combination of natural head lice treatment products at your natural health food store or online.

Home remedies for head lice treatment certainly vary, but there have been many reports of effective natural treatments for head lice.

If you choose not to use pesticide chemicals in order to rid your child of head lice, this decision is totally up to you.

However, you must do something about the head lice, ignoring it is not an option, and a home remedy or more natural approach seems to be a good choice for you.

Tea tree oil, which goes by the synonym tea tree essential oil, comes from the plant known by the Latin botanical name of Melaleuca alternifolia. Although the evergreen tree, which can also grow as a tall shrub, is native to sunny and moist parts of Australia and produces leaves from which tea tree essential oil is produced, tea tree essential oil is found in a number of personal care products. These include lotions, shampoos, soaps, antiseptics and deodorants. There are many reasons why tea tree essential oil is a popular additive to these products.

Tea tree essential oil and organic tea tree oil is often found in personal care products because it is a naturally-occurring antiseptic. It may help with insect stings, burns, cuts and infections of the skin. It may be used for getting rid of lice as well as athlete’s foot and warts. It may also help the body fight bacteria, fungi and viruses, and may bring on sweating.

Organic tea tree oil is also popular in aromatherapy, which uses plant essential oils to bolster the body and mind. Tea tree essential oil has been described as having a warm and fresh yet slightly medicinal fragrance. Aromatherapy diffusers allow you to use organic tea tree oil so that its unique scent fills a room. Diffusers come in both large and small sizes, and all require a heat source in order to warm the essential oil to release its fragrance. Small diffusers are available to be worn around the neck, relying on body heat to warm the organic tea tree oil. Automobile diffusers are small enough to hang from the rear-view mirror or plug directly into the vehicle’s cigarette lighter. Candle diffusers use a lit candle under a shallow basin that holds the tea tree essential oil. Electric diffusers with built-in fans are useful for spreading the scent of organic tea tree oil throughout an entire room.

Certain essential oils are also classified organic. This means that the trees have been grown in such a way that they utilized no synthetic chemical fertilizers or pesticides at any point in their growth cycle. It also means that the property on which the plants grew had to be synthetic fertilizer- and pesticide-free for a length of time prior to organic plant growth. Finally, the grower had to keep detailed records about how the plants were grown and be willing to undergo on-site inspections. In the United States, the United States Department of Agriculture and National Organic Program set out the rules for compliance for organic certification; authorized agencies then certify products, including organic tea tree oil, that meet those standards.

The world is fast waking up to the wonders of tea tree oil. The famous beauty brand “The Body Shop” has an entire line of products made from tea tree oil. These products are very helpful in preventing blemishes. They deeply purify and cleanse your skin along with absorbing excess oil. Body Shop and many other companies have created lines of tea tree oil products to help treat acne.

Tea tree leaves were earlier used as a substitute for tea, which is how the tea tree got its name. The Tea Tree oil is obtained from steam distillation of the leaves of the tree Melaleuca alternifolia. Among the 100 compounds contained in the oil, terpinen-4-ol accounts for most of the antimicrobial properties. This tree is native to the New South Wales located in Australia.

Tea Tree oil was used in Australia as a potent antiseptic much before any scientific research. However the recent studies support use of tea tree oil in skin care and various aliments including acne, dandruff, toenail infection, fungal infection, and Athlete’s foot. It is also used in toothpaste, mouthwashes, soaps and shampoos all over the world. It is also used to cure flu, cough and to clear congestion.

Tea Tree Oil Used for Acne

Tea tree oil contains terepinen-4-ol which is mostly responsible for its antimicrobial properties. This helps in killing the harmful bacteria. Using tea tree oil to treat acne lesion helps to kill Propionibacterium acnes, the skin-dwelling bacteria that is responsible for causing acne.

Tea tree oil is very effective in treatment of moderate acne. A random trial was done to prove this by the Royal Prince Alfred Hospital, Department of Dermatology on 124 people. This trail compared the effectiveness and tolerance of 5% tea tree oil and 5% benzoyl peroxide. The results showed that there was significant reduction using tea tree oil, albeit with slower onset of action.

Even though tea tree oil took more time in showing results, there were fewer side effects like burning, itching, dryness and stinging that benezoyl peroxide group showed.

Another study in 2007 on 60 patients with mild to moderate acne vulgaris also gave notably better results than placebo.

Using Tea Tree Oil for Acne

Undiluted tea tree oil should not be applied to an acne lesion as it can cause burning, itching, dryness, redness, skin irritation and even blistering. The concentration that is advised is 5% tea tree oil solution which can be applied to effected areas.

To make 5% tea tree oil solution mix 5 parts of tea tree oil to 95 parts of water (5cc of 100% tea tree oil to 95cc of water).

Brenda Harper, a Californian aesthetician, uses it on a regular basis with clients who experience acne with “wonderful results,”. She recommends application of Glycolic acid after dabbing tea tree oil on the affected areas and waiting for 15 minutes.

Tea tree oil is safe, as long as not used internally. Data on oral use of tea tree oil is very limited and there are some reports of side effects of oral ingestion.

Perhaps when tea tree oil was not yet very popular, people with toenail fungus had to face a future where they either had to live with their ugly festering toenails or have surgery to remove all their affected toenails altogether. But now that tea tree oil is readily available, people with toenail fungus can have relief from their dilemma.

Many people testify to the almost magical effects of tea tree oil on their fungal infections. Because it is a natural essential oil, it is a safer and cheaper alternative for eliminating fungal infections compared to consuming drugs which may have harmful side effects on your body, or buying costly prescription drugs. Tea tree oil is not enough. It is only part of the equation.

Origins of tea tree oil

Tea tree oil is derived from the tree named Melaleuca alternifolia which grows in Australia. At present, people can buy their bottles of tea tree oil from alternative medicine and homeopathic product suppliers.

Therapeutic effects of tea tree oil

The oil reportedly can destroy fungus, bacteria, viruses and yeast. It is generally used as an active ingredient in anti-fungal preparations that also use other essential oils in tandem with it. Thus, it is not recommended that you consume tea tree oil preparations because it or the other essential oils mixed with it might cause complications. As it is deemed a home remedy, there are no scientific claims that have been validated yet about its therapeutic effects though there are already medical practitioners who recommend it to their patients.

Ruling out other conditions

It is vital that you get the proper diagnosis of toenail fungal infection from your doctor before attempting to treat yourself with tea tree oil. This is because your thickened and deformed toenails might be caused by other factors, such as: skin conditions, spread of bacteria, and injury to the nail (among others.) To properly diagnose you, the doctor may need to take a sample of the affected nail to be sent to a laboratory for testing. If the condition is definitely a fungal infection, then the doctor may line up treatment options for you to consider. If the doctor does not know yet about tea tree oil and its reputed therapeutic effects on fungal infections, you may want to inform him about what you have researched so far. Or you might want to get a second opinion from a doctor who has been prescribing tea tree oil to his patients already. The problem with some people is that they resort to using tea tree oil even without knowing the exact cause of their nail condition, then get disappointed when the tea tree oil does not seem to work. Get the right diagnosis first, then try tea tree oil – that is the way to go about it.

Scientific investigation about tea tree oil

Because there is a growing amount of positive feedback about the wonderful benefits people have gotten from tea tree oil as an anti-fungal product, there is already a movement to investigate such claims. That is a positive trend which may eventually lead to the widespread recognition of tea tree oil as an anti-fungal therapy by the medical and scientific community. Remember that using tea tree oil is not enough we strongly suggest that you visit www.outsidehealth.net to learn about the other anti fungal oils that must be used.

One popular use of the tea tree oil medicinal properties is in shampoos to help fight dandruff and other scalp problems. Many of the major suppliers of hair care product are now offering shampoos containing tea tree oil, as the demand for organic and natural products has increased. Tea tree oil is an essential oil known for its medicinal properties. It is obtained after steam distillation of the tree Melaleuca alternifolia, which is a native of New South Wales, Australia. The tea tree oil is antiseptic and antifungal in nature. Among the various 98 components of the tea tree oil, most important is terpinen-4-ol, which accounts for most of antimicrobial properties of this oil. Tea tree oil should not be confused with tea oil (the seasoning and cooking oil obtained from pressed seeds of the plant Camellia oleifera). Tea tree oil shampoo can help cleanse the hair and scalp. It soothes an itchy dry scalp and helps control dandruff. Shampoos containing 5% tea tree oil are most effective in fighting these symptoms. According to a study reported in Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology a study conducted on 126 persons using a shampoo containing 5% tea tree oil with mild to moderate dandruff found reduced symptoms after a 4 week trial. The author of this study believes that the tea tree oil helps kill the specific fungus involved in dandruff. The participants were asked to rate degree of itchiness, scaliness and greasiness of their scalps. They reported significant reduction in all these factors as compared to other group using placebo shampoo. No side effects were reported in the study. Dandruff is characterized by dryness, itchiness and flakiness of the scalp. Some studies suggest that it is a specific fungus called Pityrosporum ovale and some cases can be treated by antifungal medication like, ketoconazole, terbinafine and selenium sulfide. However, Tea Tree oil is beneficial for dandruff as it is an effective anti fungal agent. The shampoo containing tea tree oil can be used everyday without causing any imbalance in natural bacteria.
